Kou

Scientific Name: Cordia subcordata

Common Name: Forget-me-nots (orange)

Natural Setting / Location: prefers warm coastal areas on the leeward side islands, and plentiful sunlight

The Kou tree is a small to medium-sized tree that grows to 30-40 foot height. It prefers sunny warm coastal lowlands in the islands' leeward areas. The kou flowers are a distinct orange color that makes up for their lack of scent.  The soft, delicate flowers are typically used in a lei kui.
